Information For Authors

Articles submitted to the journal should be based on an established theoretical basis and include a contribution to the field of business and economics. Articles are mostly submitted in Icelandic but can also be submitted in English. For a manuscript to be considered for peer-review by the journal it needs to meet the following criteria:

  1. Contain novelty, which can consist of the presentation of new data, new results, theoretical contributions or methodological ones. A clear research question (one or more) must be put forth as well as hypotheses if applicable. The content of the article must not have been published already at a peer-reviewed venue. By submitting an article to the journal, authors confirm that the article has not been published in another peer-reviewed forum nor is it under consideration in another forum.
  2. Include a short abstract in the beginning. Only in English if the article is in English but in both Icelandic and English if the article is written in Icelandic.
  3. The introductory section should clearly state the objective and research question/s of the article, its structure and what makes the subject important and/or interesting (not necessarily in this order).
  4. Include an account of its theoretical basis and a discussion of other academic writings and research related to the subject.
  5. A section on method should explain the methods used in the research and how the data is processed.
  6. A section on conclusion should report the results and take care that they comply with the objectives, research questions and hypotheses as applicable.
  7. A discussion section which examines the results in view of the theoretical discussion. As applicable it should explain the conclusions which can be drawn from the research, as well as stating its possible limitations and which further research could be made on the subject.
  8. Be submitted with bibliography using the journal´s template format and follow its instructions regarding set-up of tables and pictures.

Although collaboration with students is welcomed, experience shows that manuscripts that are almost unchanged student theses are not likely to be accepted by peer reviewers. The requirements and criteria for manuscript quality for peer-reviewed journals are somewhat different from those for academic theses, and therefore supervisors usually need to make their own mark on the manuscript.

The journal is peer-reviewed with double-blind, where the reviewers do not receive information on authors and authors do not receive information on reviewers. Having regard to the small academic community in Iceland authors are encouraged to remove not only their own names from original manuscripts submitted but also other material which might reveal their identity, such as information on a larger related research project and/or on specific grants related to the research. In case of publication in the journal such details can be updated in the final processing of the article.

Publication in the journal is subject to approval by the editorial board following peer-review. Normally two reviews are acquired but sometimes a third one as well in case of inconsistency between the two original reviewers.

There are four possible outcomes of a peer-review:

  1. the article is accepted,
  2. the article is accepted subject to certain changes,
  3. that major changes must be made to the article, which may be resubmitted for peer-review,
  4. the article is rejected.

Publication dates on the web are mid-June and mid-December. No publication fee is paid by authors when publishing in the journal.

Submission deadlines are 1st of April for the June issue and 1st of October for the December issue. In 2023 the deadline for the June issue is 11th of April.

Articles published in the journal are graded ten points in the evaluation system of public universities in Iceland.

Articles are submitted via the journal‘s homepage, see “Register” for new authors or “Login” at the top of the page.

Requirements are made for article layouts and that the journal's template is used. Articles are usually 15-20 pages long. Authors are responsible for proof reading.

Furthermore, authors are responsible for the material published by the journal and for presenting their findings with the integrity and in a manner that is expected by the scientific community.

Articles should include JEL classification, one or more as applicable. Information regarding JEL classifications can be found here

The APA7 citation format is used for the journal´s articles.

Finally, authors are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the information for reviewers, which are partly based on the criteria described above.
